PRINCETON, N.J. -- A new Internet service links college-bound
high school students with current college students for advice
and strategies on how to get into a college of choice -- directly
from those who’ve recently made it.
YesLetter.com, founded by two Princeton University students,
offers an extensive online library and discussion network --
all developed and run by students in a number of Ivy League
and other top-tier schools.
“Our vision was to create a service where aspiring high-schoolers
get the benefits of personal, college-admissions consultations
without having to pay hundreds or even thousands to do so,”
explained YesLetter.com co-founder Robert J. Moore (Princeton
’06).
YesLetter.com provides students with unlimited access to exclusive
articles and resources covering every phase of the college admissions
process, from standardized testing to interviewing to completing
applications and essays. YesLetter.com also offers high school
students discussion boards and regular chats, all hosted by
existing college students and other experts.
“We didn’t want another generic advice aid or impersonal
strategy service. YesLetter.com strives to offer college applicants
the chance to have their specific concerns discussed by students
who’ve made it into their top-choice schools and by admissions
counselors who know what it takes to make it,” Moore said.
YesLetter.com staff members include AP National Scholars, National
Merit Scholars, 1600 SAT scorers, official college-tour guides
and historians, extracurricular enthusiasts, writers, engineers,
“social tycoons” and more.
“Every one of YesLetter.com’s counselors is on
call to interact with YesLetter.com subscribers and address
their admissions-related questions and concerns,” Moore
said. “It’s a personal linking service offering
a level of personal insight unlike that found in typical college
consulting and editorial services,” Moore said.
“Historically, wealthier applicants who can pay for private
college consulting services enjoyed a clear advantage over others.
Unfortunately, students who can’t afford these costly
consultations have often been left in the dark,” noted
YesLetter.com co-founder Adam Ludwig.
YesLetter.com is dedicated to helping inspired students from
all financial backgrounds gain admission to their schools of
choice, Ludwig added.
A standard three-month student membership in YesLetter.com
offers unlimited access to the service for only $70. School-wide
access plans are available at rates that vary according to the
school’s enrollment -- but all school-wide plans are under
$1,000.
YesLetter.com also offers programs for free school-wide access
to high schools that have never sent a student to the Ivy League
and a fee-waiver program to select high school students with
extremely limited financial resources.
Ludwig and Moore are sophomores at Princeton University. Ludwig
is a 2002 graduate of St. Joseph High School in St. Joseph,
Mich. Moore is a 2002 graduate of Glassboro High School in Glassboro,
